As some of you know, I gave birth to two micro preemies. Nine years ago, our daughter came into this world weighing only 1 pound. Seven years ago, our son chimed in at a whopping 2 lbs. 15 oz.
Sean and I were terrified at the bleak outlook on our children’s development. During a combined stay of 195 days, our children graduated from the NICU with very unexpected success. They defied almost all of the odds, and are now incredibly strong and healthy.
We owe this success story not only to the determination of our children, but to the real life superheroes in the NICU. Beth Israel NICU is very near and dear to our hearts. We are forever grateful for everyone from the grandmas who knit hats for our babies to the nurse heroes that deal with life and death on a minute to minute basis.
I had the great privilege of photographing some of the babies in the NICU this Halloween. To see some of the adorable babies and their Halloween costumes, check out this Boston Globe article. What a joy it was to go and revisit our old stomping grounds.
Thank you again and again for all you do! The Lorenz family will always support you.
